On Saturday 13th July, I will be running for 24 hours around a 40-mile loop of Jersey to raise money and awareness for Enable Jersey. Disability, inaccessibility, and barriers affect disabled islanders 24 hours a day. Carers hold the responsibility of caring 24 hours a day. By carrying out the uncomfortable task of running for 24 hours, I want to shed light on disability matters that affect people all day, every day. I hope to raise awareness through my own story. Disability isn't always visible. I have Lupus, and managing my illness is an everyday task. Mismanagement can land me in the hospital with failed organs. These disabilities require 24-hour attention and are often unnoticed. At Enable, they strive to create a community that is aware of the barriers faced by people with disabilities and help them overcome those barriers. Their overall intention is to create an inclusive island where everyone has the chance to live to their best ability.
