£5,240.00 Raised

About Sue and Rob Kelly

Profile picture

Each year, one of Jersey MenCap’s main fund-raising activities is the South Coast Challenge, a 24 km walk from La Rocque Harbour to Corbiere.

Unfortunately Sue and I are not able to participate as we are required to help setting up, Marshalling and then manning the final check point welcoming the finishers.

So, for 2023, we have decided to undertake the final stage of the Camino Frances which is a 115km walk from Sarria to Santiago de Compostela at the beginning of April. This is in effect 5 South Coast Walks in 5 days. Why are we doing this. Firstly it is a personal challenge and a fitting walk in memory of our daughter, Rachael. Secondly, and more importantly, to raise funds for Jersey MenCap which supports children and adults with a learning disability. They strive for improved services, choice and opportunity; offering support in a variety of ways. The projects are for local people with a learning disability, they include:

Book Club, Singing Group, The Pond Project, Taking Part Making Art, The Social Club, Walking Group and Petanque Club

Jersey MenCap receive no funding from Government and without donations these projects would not exist. Not only do the sessions provide valuable opportunities for the attendees they also provide respite for the carers which is invaluable especially as we come out of a pandemic where many of the clients were considered vulnerable and were isolating with their carers.

If you would like to sponsor us we would be grateful and all funds raised will go to Jersey MenCap. (www.jerseymencap.org)

Our target is a modest £0.10 per metre walked or £11,500.00.

As an incentive, I have a place free in my Team for the Jersey MenCap Golf Day at Royal Jersey Golf Club on the 4th May 2023 and am willing to offer this to the most generous individual or company.

Thanks in advance
