About Hands Around The World Jersey

Profile picture

An initiative to break down barriers and the stigma of disability in Bugarama, and shine a bright light of hope into the hearts of children with disabilities.
In 2024 three headteachers from schools in Bugarama visited Jersey as part of our partnership programme with local teachers. One of the things that impressed them was the Inclusion Policy – the way children with various disabilities were included in mainstream classes.
On his return to St Paul Muko School, Father Emmanuel, headteacher of St Paul Muko, determined to establish a programme to support and include children born with disabilities, who had previously been hidden and kept away at home.
At the first opportunity 85 parents came to register their children. Muko is starting with a more manageable 35 children but plans to include more as resources allow. The programme, entitled Disability is not Inability, was launched at a full school assembly on 16th May 2025.
With help from HATW UK we have been able to provide £10,000 to support the establishment of this wonderful initiative.
