About Jules Stephenson
Hi I’m Jules :)
Back in 2019 I was blessed to become a co-founder of Emancipated Run Crew alongside my sister Denise, and running brother Trojan. After many years of running at grassroots level, we each noted that there was a serious lack of black and brown runners both at running events and in running clubs. We decided to create a safe, inclusive and supportive community for Black and Brown runners - and Emancipated Run Crew (ERC) was born. Over time we've incorporated as a community interest company, which has helped us with establishing relationships with sports bodies and brands, but also allowing us to shine a light on several initiatives and campaigns that directly affect Black and Brown communities.
In 2023 we established a relationship with The Sickle Cell Society to promote awareness of their Give Blood Spread Love campaign to encourage much needed blood donation from people of Black and Brown heritage.
Last year I ran London Marathon, which was my first ever marathon, to raise funds for both The Sickle Cell Society and ERC's 1834 campaign (which we launched in 2023) and this year I will be running two marathons in two months - the LA Marathon on 16 March, and the London Marathon on 27 April - again raising money for these two important causes. All funds raised will be split equally between both organisations, and by sponsoring my marathon, you will once more be giving me a very important "why" to cling on to as I work my way through those 26.2 miles not once, but twice!
Grateful for any donation no matter the size, which will support important work being done by two organisations very close to my heart. Thank you!!!
Fundraising Information
This fundraising page benefits the following good causes:
Emanicpated Run Crew (ERC) was set up in 2019 by sisters Denise and Julia Stephenson (@we_run_we_eat) and friend Trojan Gordon (@thebeardedrunner) who were determined to challenge the lack of diversity in grassroots running by creating a virtual space where black and brown runners can support and encourage each other whatever our running goal. We will help you to run your own race and in doing so encourage you to Run Free!
The Sickle Cell Society is the only national charity in the UK that supports and represents people affected by a sickle cell disorder to improve their overall quality of life.
First set up as a registered charity in 1979, the Sickle Cell Society has been working alongside health care professionals, parents, and people living with sickle cell to raise awareness of the disorder. The Society’s aim is to support those living with sickle cell, empowering them to achieve their full potential.
The Sickle Cell Society believes that individuals with sickle cell have the right to quality care. This can only be achieved if funding is made available to educate health carers and other professionals about the condition. The Society aims to provide this.
The Society does not discriminate between the types of sickle cell disorders or the ethnic groups concerned. Both sexes are equally affected, and should have equal access to support and services within a confidential and sensitive environment. We respect the views of every patient.
We have a network of committed volunteers, who play an important part in running the charity, providing administrative backup, and helping with fund-raising activities.
Donations from the public and fundraising activities are also part of our life support. Without them, we would be unable to finance the essential research and educational projects and we would be unable to offer children a much-needed holiday. The Society benefits from the support of a wide range of individuals and organisations nationally, who together play a vital role in its success.
