About Yaël

Thanks to the amazing ERC running club, I am over the moon to be running my second marathon in this beautiful, crazy, unmatched city I call home: London! The (very importantly, flat) course will hopefully make me fall in love all over again, and dear all, I need your support!

Why ERC? Because despite inspiring us worldwide - like queen Sifan Hassan who showed us who's boss in my native Paris last summer, or the incredible Jacob Kiplimo, who broke the half marathon world record earlier this year - People of colour are hugely underrepresented in your local, weekly, everyday running events.

Take a look around next time you cheer on a friend or family, or volunteer to give out water. I invite you to take note of who is running. Ask yourself if everyone feels welcome, or supported in their health journey, empowered...

Running is not always easy, but it doesn't have to be lonely. Knowing that you have access to spaces where people understand the challenges you may face, lift you up, support you and facilitate opportunities can be all you need to join your community run. Or get "in shape", or just dare to try new things. Grassroot events is where it all starts, and ERC is doing an AMAZING job at being present in the community.

All donations will be equally split between ERC and the Sickle Cell Society, which advocates and acts for better quality care for people suffering from sickle cell disease - a severe blood disorder more common in people of Black heritage, causing red blood cells to form into sickle or crescent shapes and become stuck in blood vessels, which leads to episodes of severe pain known as crises, as well as serious or even fatal complications, including organ damage and strokes.

Check out SCS & ERC's socials and please donate to help them keep up the good work and keep me on my feet until 27/04!

Fundraising Information

This fundraising page benefits the following good causes:

Emancipated Run Crew

Emanicpated Run Crew (ERC) was set up in 2019 by sisters Denise and Julia Stephenson (@we_run_we_eat) and friend Trojan Gordon (@thebeardedrunner) who were determined to challenge the lack of diversity in grassroots running by creating a virtual space where black and brown runners can support and encourage each other whatever our running goal.  We will help you to run your own race and in doing so encourage you to Run Free!

The Sickle Cell Society

The Sickle Cell Society is the only national charity in the UK that supports and represents people affected by a sickle cell disorder to improve their overall quality of life.
First set up as a registered charity in 1979, the Sickle Cell Society has been working alongside health care professionals, parents, and people living with sickle cell to raise awareness of the disorder. The Society’s aim is to support those living with sickle cell, empowering them to achieve their full potential.
The Sickle Cell Society believes that individuals with sickle cell have the right to quality care. This can only be achieved if funding is made available to educate health carers and other professionals about the condition. The Society aims to provide this.
The Society does not discriminate between the types of sickle cell disorders or the ethnic groups concerned. Both sexes are equally affected, and should have equal access to support and services within a confidential and sensitive environment. We respect the views of every patient.
We have a network of committed volunteers, who play an important part in running the charity, providing administrative backup, and helping with fund-raising activities.
Donations from the public and fundraising activities are also part of our life support. Without them, we would be unable to finance the essential research and educational projects and we would be unable to offer children a much-needed holiday. The Society benefits from the support of a wide range of individuals and organisations nationally, who together play a vital role in its success.
