About Rob Mason
in memory of Kezia Mason

So, in September 2025—just weeks before I hit the big 5-0— for some reason I’ve decided to do something completely ridiculous. Me. The person who considers walking to the fridge a workout. Instead of celebrating my birthday with cake and wine (as nature intended), I’ll be dragging my unfit, overly-cushioned self up to Everest Base Camp. Yep, THE Everest.
Initially planned as a group of 4 friends we are now 7 in total and it seems they are apparently just as delusional as I am. We’ll be trekking 6-11 hours a day and along with altitude acclimatisation stops we will be on the trail for 12 days - which is, frankly, an absurd amount of time to be moving on purpose. If all goes according to plan, we’ll reach Base Camp and then summit Kalapatar, a lovely little spot sitting at 18,000+ feet. Stay tuned for updates, which may just be me crying into an oxygen mask.
Why are we doing this? To raise funds for Kezia's Fund, a charity we established in 2022 in honor of my beautiful daughter Kezia, who we tragically lost to suicide at just 14 years old.
Our route will take us through the heart of the Sherpa homeland, from Namche Bazaar, crossing valleys, forests, and glacial rivers, with breathtaking views of Everest along the way. It’s going to be physically challenging and mentally tough, but every step will be worth it.
This trek is more than just a physical challenge for us—it’s a way to honour Kezia’s memory and continue the work of her Fund. I’d be incredibly grateful for your support, whether it’s by sponsoring our journey, spreading the word, or simply sending good vibes our way.
Since its launch, the Fund has awarded over £200,000 in grants to local organisations working to improve mental health for young people. The impact has been profound, giving many young people in Jersey access to resources and support they desperately need. But we know there’s still so much more to do to close the gaps in mental health services.
The Fund focuses on:
- Enhancing mental health and wellbeing children and young people
- Empowering young people to create their own mental health initiatives
- Supporting young people in actively designing and delivering mental health programs in their communities
Thank you for helping us make a difference. Together, we can save and change lives.
