Million Steps Challenge
After five fulfilling years, I will be stepping down as Chairman of the Grace Crocker Family Support Foundation. It has been an honour to serve such a vital cause that supports Jersey families during some of their most challenging times.
To mark this transition, I’ve decided to take on the Million Steps Challenge a symbolic journey representing the distance from Jersey Hospital to Great Ormond Street Hospital and back. It’s the equivalent of completing 10 Round Island Walks in just one month!
This challenge highlights the journey undertaken by hundreds of Jersey families seeking specialist treatment for their children in the UK. While they don’t walk it on foot, the emotional, logistical, and financial toll can be just as immense. That’s where the Grace Crocker Foundation, in partnership with our sister charity Family First, steps in offering practical and emotional support so families can focus on what truly matters.
Since 2011, we’ve channelled over £1.4 million directly to families in need. The Million Steps Challenge has already raised over £20,000 and sparked tremendous awareness. I hope to add to that total while continuing the conversation, sharing stories, and maybe even making a few new friends along the way.
Thank you for your continued support of this important cause. If you'd like to support my challenge or spread the word, every step counts.

The Grace Crocker Family Support Foundation was set up in January 2011, in memory of Grace Crocker, who grew her angel wings aged 11 weeks. Grace was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (A congenital heart disorder in which the left side of the heart, particularly the left ventricle, is underdeveloped. The first part of the aorta may also be abnormal. Affected babies usually develop severe heart failure within the first few days of life), and had open-heart surgery when she was just 5 days old. Her family lived in Jersey, and so they had to move to Southampton for three months whilst Grace recovered from her surgery, including her brother and sister as well as her mum and dad. She met lots of friends and family when she was allowed back home to Jersey, and in the month that she was home, she touched so many people’s lives. As a result of our own experience, we set up this charity with the support of friends and family, with the aim to help other families from Jersey who need to spend time in the UK whilst their child receives medical treatment in a hospital. It is worrying enough when your child is sick, without being faced with additional financial worries, and so we would love to help families in some way, by providing them with some financial assistance and emotional support too.
