About Mr James Hadley-Piggin
I have decided to take part in one of Jersey's most iconic races - 'Round the Rock'. This is a 48 mile ultra marathon around Jersey. I am doing this race for several quite personal reasons.
Firstly, it will be my last major event before I leave Jersey temporaily for a year to train as a teacher. Secondly, I am a dyspraxic individual and running is not a sport that comes naturally to the likes of myself. By pushing myself outside of my comfort zone and running a pretty tough race is my way of breaking barriers and illustrating to every neurodiverse and neurotypical individual that they can achieve anything if they put their mind to it. Thirdly, after a rather traumatic incident earlier in the year, I want to show the importance of making the most of everything and everyone we have around us and taking nothing for granted.
The money raised in this campaign will be used to fund projects currently being undertaken by 'All matters neurodiverse'. I have just joined the committee and once back in Jersey, my role will be working with Jersey Sport to promote diversity and inclusion, encouraging more neurodiverse young people to take up a sport that they wouldn't otherwise. Having a childhood and adolescence where dyspraxia wasn't understood, I had a really difficult time at school, particularly when it came to sport. We should not be defined by a label.
