Many of you know I've been fortunate enough to spend significant time on the beautiful island of Jersey, part of the Channel Islands between the UK and France. ‘The Rock’ as the locals call it, is home to just over 100,000 people, surging in the summer as a popular vacation spot for those from England. The more time I spend, the more I'm captivated by those that live here and their lifestyle. From the baristas at my coffee shop who I’ve grown to call friends, to the group of women laughing at the café full of life, to the vibrant running community that has welcomed me with open arms — they care for each other in such a special and complete way. This community is close-knit and I’m so lucky to have been able to enjoy their home along side them during my time here.

With that, ’30 bays’ is a fundraiser benefiting both Jersey Hospice Care, who has cared for so many on the island over the last 40 years including Steph’s step-father, Pete Ollivier, in his final days with cancer, and The National Trust for Jersey which strives to protect Jersey’s natural beauty, preserve wildlife and safeguard historic buildings for all to enjoy for many years to come.

I'm participating to give back to ‘the ORIGINAL Jersey shore’, raising money for two incredibly worthy causes that are so important to those that love this little 9 by 5 mile slice of paradise.

While the goal is to swim (a minimum of 30 strokes) in all 30 bays in the month of July,  I am only here for a few days! Point is, I’m going to do my absolute best but I need your help. One-time sponsorships of any amount are greatly appreciated and I love you so much for considering it.

If you’d like to provide some extra motivation for my endeavor, please pledge an amount for EACH Bay I’m able to complete i.e. $1 per Bay — when I'm not sure I want to 'go one more', those pledges are sure to motivate me to go the extra mile, and extra bay. ;)

Thank you for reading and for considering supporting me to benefit Jersey — and if you have a chance, take a look at some of the history or consider visiting in the future. You will not be disappointed!

Fundraising Information

This fundraising page benefits the following good cause:

National Trust for Jersey & Jersey Hospice Care

National Trust for Jersey

The National Trust for Jersey is an independent charitable organisation, which permanently protects and cares for over 1,754 vergées of land, 19,000 metres of footpath and 30 historic buildings for the benefit of the Island. Established in 1936, the Trust is totally self-funding; it currently costs £3,790 per day to run the organisation.

The Trust's main objective is to permanently preserve and safeguard places of historic interest and natural beauty for the benefit of the Island. This is mainly achieved through the acquisition of properties and land either though donations, bequests or purchases.
We would like to encourage every Islander that loves  and cares for our beautiful Island to become a member of the Trust.

Jersey Hospice Care

Jersey Hospice Care is the island’s Hospice, offering specialist palliative care, free of charge, to all islanders with life-limiting illnesses, irrespective of cause or diagnosis.
Many people think that hospices are places of sadness focused on death and dying. In fact our focus is on living and living well right up to the end, making memories and spending time with your family.

Our care is about so much more than the specialist palliative treatment of a person’s physical symptoms. It’s a total philosophy of care, offering spiritual and emotional support that extends to family members and carers. For each person we are privileged to care for, we only get one chance at the end of life to get it right and that’s why we strive every day to go that extra mile for our patients and their families, to make extraordinary care our ‘ordinary’. Helping each person we care for, to get the best out of every day and to make each day count.
We couldn’t do this without the generosity of our local community and the support of our amazing volunteers.
In 2019 we launched our out-reach service for babies, children and young people with a life-limited condition. This included our Tots & Toys group for babies and children up to five years old. This service is in addition to our Emotional Support service for children and young people and their families, which we started in 2017.

About 30 Bays in 30 Days 2023

Following the success of the last 8 years, the '30 Bays in 30 Days' swimming challenge which raises funds for both Jersey Hospice Care and The National Trust for Jersey will be launched again for July 2023. We encourage all those registered to start the challenge on 1st July and swim a minimum of 30 strokes, 30 times in bays local to them. Participants can pick their favourite bays or if they want an extra challenge, can attempt to swim in all 30 during the month of July.
Participants may carry on swimming in August to complete as many swims or bays as they have challenged themselves to complete!

We will be holding an opening swim in St Brelade Bay on Saturday 01 July at 4pm. Our closing swim will be held on Sunday 30 July at 3:30pm in St Brelade Bay.
