Fundraising Information

This fundraising page benefits the following good cause:

The Ferne Animal Sanctuary

Ferne was set up through the foresight of the late Nina, Duchess of Hamilton & Brandon – who realised that men and women going off to war had no-one to take care of their animals and so would require a temporary refuge for them.

The Duchess put a call out on the BBC and legend has it that when she returned to her London home there were a number of cats and dogs on her doorstep and also a parrot!

The need for our work continues to this day. This page includes some of the notable milestones of the charity. Much more information is available at the sanctuary – why not pay us a visit?

About Minster Milers' Mash 10k

MINSTER MILERS' MASH 10K

This is an undulating course that takes in the beautiful South Somerset countryside including the magnificent backdrop of the Dillington Estate finishing through the historic Ilminster Town Square.

Partnering with Ferne Animal Sanctuary this is a truly community based event that supports and is supported by local businesses.

After the success of the previous event the Mash is back and bigger with an extra 150 places to take us to a limit of 350 entrants.  Book early to avoid disappointment as we expect to sell out.

The Minster Milers look forward to welcoming you on Sunday 7th April for a 10am start.

Route

The multi-terrain course will start and end at the Archie Gooch Pavilion, Canal Way, Ilminster and is mainly on road and rolling country lanes: there is just 2.4km (1.5 miles) on playing fields (short grass), farm track and across a field edge. Starting from the Pavilion playing field beneath Herne Hill the first half mile climbs up Britten's Field and out of Ilminster before joining the public road for a gentle climb towards Kingstone.  Turning left back towards Ilminster there is a descent on a wider road leading to a farm track before crossing the Ilminster to Seavington road.  Runners then follow a field-side track before taking to the private tarmac roads of Dillington Estate (with some cattle grids to negotiate!). You are then greeted by the beautiful Dillington House as your backdrop before taking a path up and out of the Estate to the Ilminster Beacon, the highest point on the route.  Heading downhill you will arrive back in Ilminster town centre, again taking to footpaths and roads through the town before winding your way along Canal Way and returning to the finishing line at the Archie Gooch Pavilion.

There will be a first aid and water station at approximately 4.5km and the route will be fully distance marked in addition to marshals at key points along the route.
