In November 2018 I was diagnosed with a Formen Magnum Meningioma, a brain tumour at the base of my skull. My life was instantly turned upside down and become a series of hospital appointments, scans and a plan of attack. My consultant from the start was confident it was benign, but the tumour was in a dangerous location and it had to be removed asap to prevent stroke, paralysis and even death.
The hardest part for me, was that I had one and four year old little boys at the time and I was absolutely terrified they would grow up without a mum. My operation was dangerous, due to the location of the tumour and the risks were high.
The NHS were absolutely fantastic and operated for 12.5 hours to remove my tumour. I suffered some complications, but I was just so grateful they could remove the entire mass. I was also so lucky, as a few weeks later, it was confirmed to be benign. Now my treatment moving forward is annual monitoring MRI scans.
I am running to raise money for Brain Tumour research, because brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer, yet just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease since records began in 2002. This needs to change! We need to help make this change!
Please donate anything you can and together let’s make a difference!
Thank you,
