Nearly one million people in the UK have Dementia and if nothing changes then half of us will be affected by the disease in our lives either developing it ourselves, caring for someone who has it or both. Alzheimer's disease is the most common cause of Dementia accounting for two thirds of cases.
In May 2018, my Grandma Marian Hawkins passed away. She had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's years before, a disease which causes the brain to shrink over time affecting memory, thinking, behaviour and communication. In the final months and years before my Grandma passed she often could not recognise myself and other family members or could not properly engage with us when we visited. In many ways this horrible disease took her from us prematurely.
By supporting Alzheimer's Research I hope we can make a difference and no other families will have to slowly lose a loved one this way again.
I want to say a massive thank you for taking the time to read this and for any donations.
