About Samantha Furniss
Last year my family & I saw first hand the amazing work that St Luke's Hospice Plymouth do and I want to be able to do something for them in return.
So, I will be running the Plymouth Half Marathon on the 11th May!
My Mum was diagnosed with cancer a decade ago and sadly passed away in April 2024. In the last few weeks of her life, the St Luke’s Urgent Care Service were fantastic at helping to look after her but also us. The team were lovely and really understood our worries and concerns.
Losing Mum has been heartbreaking and something we’re learning to live with. The training will be something else to add to my list of distractions, but also something that I hope will help with my own mental health.
I’m not a natural runner. I’ve done a ParkRun, a 10k and ran to fit into my wedding dress back in 2021! The training has slowly started, but as usual life chucks in illness, work, family life and broken toes(!) which have frequently paused it.
But I’m determined to complete it and raise some much needed funds and awareness for St Luke’s Hospice Plymouth to say thank you for the amazing work they do.
