About Divya Mahendran

Profile picture

This is my first Marathon and first time fundraising! I am excited and nervous for both. The furthest race I've run is the Sark 10 miler, which was more of a half-marathon experience because, it was all off road (running on cliffs feels like double effort for each mile - if you know what I mean). I got into running few years ago and since then haven't stopped.

The reason for running a Marathon is trying to level-up mentally and spiritually. Seeing my friends raising money through sports gave me the courage to do the same (I am from India and the culture I come from, sports was something more of a hobby and academic was the centre of my experience so far. It's only since I moved countries and came to the Channel Islands, that I have started this journey with heart).

The reason I am raising money for CRY Jersey is because of the 5 key areas where they focus are key to my own values. Being from India, girl education, bias, education gap, is very much a challenge. And the other 2 key areas, mental health and supporting refugees is something we've all experienced as collective. Isolation and loss of human interaction or touch had a massive surge in depression and loss all over the world.

We can't solve the problem overnight, but we can take one step at a time. Helping one human at a time. Together for a better human future.

Even though we have wars, systemic racism, education gaps - at the end of the day, we would do absolutely anything to have each other. That's the true power of human connection.

I hope that by taking part in this marathon I raise my target sum of £500 for CRY Jersey with your help and support. Thank you.

Fundraising Information

This fundraising page benefits the following good cause:

CRY Jersey

We are a local Christian charity, that works mainly overseas to help children and young people to fulfil their God-given potential.
The work that CRY carries out worldwide falls into 5 key areas: Enable Education, Empower Girls, Support Refugees, Provide Aid and Improve Mental Health. You can find out more about the projects that our work supports by visiting our projects page here.
We are independent from Care & Relief for the Young( CRY UK) but fundraise for them, and see them as our parent charity. We have our Trustees in Jersey, who meet regularly to plan for and support our work. The majority of our fundraising is carried out by our 2 successful charity shops, but we also hold events throughout the year to increase awareness locally of the valuable projects we are supporting worldwide and raise funds to support these.
