Hey guys! Hope all is well! I’m Bellu, 32 and live in London! I’m taking part in this event to raise awareness and some money towards Sickle Cell Disease. This is so dear to me as I suffer from Sickle Cell too and have family members who also suffer from it. I’m running for myself and in memory of my cousin Jean, who sadly lost his battle to sickle cell. I also want to run for all the warriors around the world whether still with us or not. Please help me raise money for this great cause. All your donations are appreciated whether small or big. Thank you all so much in advance. May you all continue to be blessed.

"This is soo important spreading awareness as a paediatric nurse I can say, some healthcare professionals need more teaching and understanding on Sickle Cell as they lack knowledge. Well done Bells I’m proud of you ♥️"
ACLT was founded in 1996 when Daniel De-Gale was told there would be a 1 in 250,000 chance of finding a donor because of his ethnicity. Diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) in 1993, he passed away in 2008 due to multiple organ failure. Beverley De-Gale, OBE and Orin De-Gale, OBE, Daniel’s parents feel it took too long to find a matched donor.
Join us for this year’s exciting Charity Run on August 31st, 2024 as we come together to make a real difference for individuals living with sickle cell disease. This event is more than just a race; it’s an opportunity to unite for a cause that saves lives and supports a community in need.
Why Support ACLT?
The African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust (ACLT) is a vital lifeline for people suffering from blood disorders like sickle cell disease and leukaemia. Founded in 1996, ACLT’s mission is to increase the number of stem cell, blood, and organ donors from ethnic minority communities, particularly those of African and Caribbean descent. Sickle cell disease disproportionately affects these communities, and for many, finding a compatible stem cell or organ donor is their only chance at life.
ACLT’s work goes beyond raising awareness. They provide emotional and practical support for patients and families, and they’re tireless in their efforts to boost donor registrations, creating hope where it’s needed most. With every new donor registration, ACLT increases the chances of saving lives—people just like you could become someone’s life-saving match.
Why Is This Charity Run Important?
Sickle cell disease is a genetic blood disorder that affects how oxygen is carried around the body, leading to painful episodes, organ damage, and often life-threatening complications. Every day, patients face the challenges of managing this chronic illness, but with your help, we can offer hope. Your participation in this charity run will directly support ACLT’s ongoing work, including:
Providing life-saving support to sickle cell and blood disorder patients across the UK
Increasing donor registrations to ensure more people from African and Caribbean communities can find a life-saving match
Raising awareness about the urgent need for stem cell, blood, and organ donations within ethnic minority groups
How You Can Make a Difference
Whether you choose to run, walk, or jog, every step you take will raise both funds and awareness for this incredibly important cause. It’s not just about crossing the finish line; it’s about giving others a chance to reach their next milestone in life. And the best part? You don’t have to be an experienced runner—this event is for everyone, from casual walkers to seasoned athletes.
Our target is to raise £200,000 to support ACLT’s vital initiatives, and with your help, we can get there! Every contribution counts, and whether you donate, share, or participate, you’re helping to save lives.
Can’t Join the Run? You Can Still Help!
If you’re unable to join us on the day, you can still make a significant impact by making a donation or sharing this page with your network. Even spreading the word can inspire others to get involved and help us reach our goal.
Let’s make this more than just a race—let’s turn it into a movement of hope, healing, and unity for those battling sickle cell disease. Together, we can save lives.
