About Running For Frubbs 10 Mile Race 2024

About Frank "Frubbs" MacFarlane
Frank MacFarlane, fondly remembered as "Frubbs," moved to Jersey from Dumbarton and worked in Hospitality for many years before he was diagnosed with a brain tumour. After leaving hospital, he became a member of Headway Jersey and greatly benefited from the support the charity provides to individuals living with a brain injury.
Sadly, Frank passed away in July 2017. In his memory, his close friend and Headway Ambassador, Harry McAlinden, decided to organise the "Running for Frubbs" event, a tribute to Frank's legacy and friendship. This year, the run will take place on 24th November 2024 — just one day before what would have been Frank’s 66th birthday.
Frank was a dear friend to many, and his love for music, especially The Rolling Stones and The Who, lives on in the hearts of those who knew him. He often brought in his CD collections to play during the arts and crafts focus group at the day centre, creating a vibrant and positive atmosphere for all members to enjoy — sharing his love for music.
Join us in honouring Frank’s memory and supporting individuals affected by a brain injury.
Sponsors and supporters
We would like to extend our gratitude to Mel Owers Painters and Decorators for generously sponsoring this event since its inception. Their continued support has enabled us to keep this race going year after year.
A special thank you to Harry McAlinden for establishing this event in Frank’s memory and continuing it over the past 7 years. Also, a special thanks to Paul Burrows from Trail Monkey Jersey for his invaluable support in the organisation of this year’s race.
Thank you to the Ports of Jersey and Jersey Development Company for their use of the Waterfront area, to Cineworld for kindly allowing us to use their venue for our awards presentation and to Hapi Lifestyle for their assistance with the race pack pick ups and spot prizes.

The impact you have by taking part
Headway Jersey has been supporting brain injured islanders and their families for over 27 years, offering a diverse range of life enhancing services - physical and cognitive therapies, social activities and advocacy support designed to promote independence and enhance quality of life. This includes neuro-physiotherapy, craniosacral therapy, Saebo rehab sessions, swimming and exercise sessions, sewing, arts and crafts, communications group as well as monthly outings.
Most of our services are delivered at our day centre at Le Coie, which serves as a lifeline, providing a sanctuary where members can engage in meaningful activities, connect with others and combat feelings of isolation.
Our ability to support individuals who have suffered a brain injury and their families, has been significantly constrained over recent years due to the ongoing challenges posed to the charity by the cost of living increase and the scarcity of funding we receive.
Our running costs are in excess of £360,000 per annum and less than 10% of this is covered by government funding. Despite our association with Headway UK, we do not receive financial support from this network. Therefore, we rely heavily on the generosity and support from our community and local businesses to secure essential funds for our charity and enable us to sustain our vital services.
Your involvement will not only make a difference in the lives of those we support but also help us foster a stronger sense of community and awareness around brain injury, ensuring Headway Jersey can continue to bring individuals and families closer together so that no one feels alone during this challenging time.
You can stay updated with any changes or announcements on our Headway Jersey social media pages and event pages, as well as our website.
