“In 2018, my friend and colleague, George Roberts, and I decided to take on a tough challenge; the Jersey Island Walk. It is a rather gruelling 48miles (77km) on foot, in one day, often under hot sun (it was that year!) with many cliff paths. I had done it once before, when I was 17, George his first time.
I...failed. I got to 38 miles and threw in the towel. George absolutely smashed it, and then decided to walk home after just for the hell of it.
Unfortunately, George was diagnosed with cancer in 2020. Despite aggressive treatment, the cancer won out and he sadly died. He was such a caring and loving person, a great friend, and amazing father.
We never got the chance to return and give me another shot, despite us talking about it.
Well, now I am going to take it on again. It was such a memorable trip, and I want to relive it in his memory. I also can't stand the thought of him looking down at me and grinning thinking he has outdone me any longer. ”
