London City Swim is a charity swim, taking place in Royal Victoria Dock in London on the 21st September 2018, to raise awareness and vital funds for motor neurone disease (MND) research. Come and swim in the beautiful waters of this national centre of excellence.
#SwimforMND
I have lived with a thankfully, slowly progressive version of Motor Neurone Disease since being diagnosed in September 2012. Until fairly recently, I could still swim a short distance on my back in a swimming pool. However, my legs are now too weak to keep me afloat and my arms were already pretty useless!
So, rather than swim I will be "floating about" in the Queen Victoria Dock with suitable flotation, safety and clothing arrangements in place.
This is to raise awareness of cruel, relentless and terminal MND as well as to raise funds for research – in this case, Project Ambrosia which aims to analyse thousands of samples taken from patients. Researchers will look at how MND progresses in different people. This will help us better understand the various types of MND and how each type affects those living with the disease
