About John Scarrott

Profile picture

This September I’m running a half marathon to raise money for Meadow House Hospice in West London.

When my wife Sarah became ill, Meadow House looked after us both. From the very beginning, they gave us something extraordinary: space. Space to be together, to make our own choices, and to live, as best we could and on our terms.

They welcomed me to stay overnight from day one. They made sure Sarah had the best room and equipment for her comfort. Doctors visited daily. There was psychological support when it was needed. They cared for Sarah with such gentleness and gave her Mum and me the precious time and privacy to say goodbye.

They continued to support me through bereavement counselling, helping me find a path forward. In no small part, because of their kindness and care, I can honestly say, I’m doing OK.

As you can see from the picture Sarah was also a runner. Although she had mixed feelings about the training, she got such a buzz out of finishing the 10ks she entered. I know she’d be chuffed that I was having another go at a half-marathon (14 years after my first!). And I will hear her cheering me on every step of the way.

I’m running in her memory, and with gratitude for the remarkable care we received. I’m raising funds for Meadow House because they provide this specialist care free of charge, relying on charitable support to continue their work.

If you’re able to support me, and support Meadow House I would be truly grateful.

Thanks in advance for whatever you can give.
