So this June I will be taking on Legal and General’s PedElle cycle challenge. Over three days, we will cycle from Siena to Rome through the hilly Tuscan countryside, covering a total of 400km and 5.2km of elevation.
Having only ever cycled to work, I have recently bought myself a road bike and had to seriously up the miles for the intense training programme, with lots of early starts and cold toes!
Three days in the saddle over rolling hills in the heat of the Italian sun will definitely be a challenge, especially the 1.5-2km of elevation gain per day -but will be an incredible experience doing this with some amazing women in the construction industry, all with the aim to raise as much money as possible for charity.
60% of money raised goes to CORAM: the UK’s oldest children’s charity, which every year transforms the lives of thousands of vulnerable children by building emotional strength, upholding children’s rights, and finding a permanent family and home for those in the greatest need.
The remaining 40% of funds raised will be split between the following beneficiaries:
Cyclists Fighting Cancer helps young people living with and beyond cancer in the UK by helping them regain their physical fitness, strength and confidence through cycling.
Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) Trusts’ vision is to find the cause and cure for MSA.
Tom’s Trust delivers educational and vocational training opportunities to disadvantaged young people in London. They also help to tackle to root causes of violent gang culture and violent street crime.
