About Derek McMenamin

Profile picture

This will be my eleventh consecutive year cycling for Le Cure, alongside my wife Debbie who was treated for breast cancer at The Royal Marsden in 2012.

We have a possibly unique relationship with The Royal Marsden - almost every penny we raise goes directly to funding research projects there jointly chosen by our team and their research leadership. Those projects have included breakthroughs in liquid biopsies to identify returning cancers much earlier than was previously possible; enabling treatments to be tailored to them and saving lives. Liquid biopsies have now become mainstream in breast cancer treatment in the UK and in many other countries. Other current projects will surely yield equally important breakthroughs.

Over the years Le Cure has become like a second family - good friends supporting each other to achieve great things in the mountains for a good cause!

About Le Cure 2026

Dear Curistas

As you probably know, if you've got this far, Le Cure de France is a charity cycling event established in 2014 to raise money for breast cancer research at the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.  So far we have raised over £3.8 million to fund our 8 Le Cure Research Fellowships (and counting), but have much more work to do to help cure cancer.

The route for 2026 includes the formidable Cime de la Bonette (the highest paved road in the Alps), the Col de l'Iseran (the highest mountain pass) and the might Col d'Izoard - fondly remembered from our first ever Le Cure.

Sign up and get cycling!  We can't wait for you to join us in the Alps to raise money to fund new, cutting-edge cancer research at the Royal Marsden Hospital.
