About Karen Archenoul

Profile picture

In just a few weeks, it will be six years since I was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. It’s been one hell of an adventure, but, touching wood, I’m still doing well, and this December will mark five years since my Stem Cell Transplant. Another huge milestone.

Since taking part last year, more friends have been diagnosed with cancer too, but they’re beating it, which is incredible news.

None of that happens without vital research, and that’s why this event means so much to me.

Alongside raising funds, this event is about something deeper. Every single person taking part is there for a reason. Whether they’ve faced cancer themselves, or walked alongside family or friends, we come together to celebrate, to remember, and to stand with those still fighting. It’s a community of hope, strength, and love.

I know times are tough and every penny matters, but if you can spare even £1, it truly does make a difference.

Thank you for your continued support and much love, Bucky

About BWCI Our Race for Life 2026

We look forward to raising money together towards the fight against cancer, with proceeds going to Cancer Research UK/Guernsey Branch.

We call it a race but it’s a run/walk/jog, that we hold each other high to cross the finish line in the fight against cancer. For one’s we’ve lost, one’s fighting, survivors, previvors and for our future.

The strong relationship between Guernsey and Southampton is crucial for the many patients from Guernsey who are treated in Southampton; it is considered the local hospital for Cancer treatment, as well as the closest hospital for clinical trials as there is no research environment in Guernsey.

Cancer Research UK/Guernsey Branch committee maintains a close working relationship with the team at Southampton, ensuring that funds raised in Guernsey are allocated with a tangible benefit to Islanders.
The Southampton Cancer Research Centre has more than 150 scientists, doctors and nurses are working faster and smarter to beat cancer sooner.
