I never thought I’d be the kind of person to run a half marathon. Running was always something distant—something other people did. But sometimes, life places a reason in front of you that’s too important to ignore… and it changes everything.

When our club captain at Wyke Green Golf Club mentioned he would be raising funds for meadows house hospice and began speaking about the charity, It wasn’t just what he said, but how he said it—the emotion, the respect, the genuine admiration for the care they provide. You could tell this place meant something real.

Then it became personal.

My aunty spent her final days at Meadows House Hospice.

In a time that could have been filled with only sadness, they gave her comfort, dignity, and peace. They didn’t just care for her—they cared for all of us. They supported our family in ways I’ll never be able to fully put into words. In those hardest moments, they made sure she wasn’t just a patient, but a person surrounded by compassion and love.

That stays with you.

That’s why I’m running.

Every mile now means something more. When it gets tough, when my legs are burning and I feel like stopping, I think of her. I think of the people in those rooms right now, and the families beside them. And I keep going.

This half marathon isn’t just a physical challenge—it’s something deeply personal. It’s my way of saying thank you. My way of giving back to a place that gave so much to someone I loved.

Meadows House Hospice matters. It matters to families like mine. And if I can help, even in a small way, to make sure they can continue to provide that incredible care for others, then every step, every mile, every moment of this run is worth it.
