It’s never easy asking your friends, colleagues and ‘contacts’ for money but like with many things in life you just have to push on, grimace and do it. A moment of embarrassment is nothing compared to doing nothing for charities who need our support more than ever – so here goes!
About every 2 years I reach out to you and every time, you donate - which is beyond wonderful. Inbetween I donate myself to cycle with the Heavy Metal Truants (virtually these last two years which is so much better for your backside, shoulders and calves than the real thing!!) on the ride up to the Download Festival. But with few big fund raising events happening and the set in of a kind of charity fatigue, every pound and penny matters for our three charity partners: Nordoff Robbins, Teenage Cancer Trust & Childline, and the children they help.
Which is why, despite chronic neck and back pain due to a damaged facet joint, I’m forcing the aching body back on the bike to take on; not Argentina, as was planned, or some other far flung exotic location, but Good Ole Bonnie Scotland with The Truants. It’s 200k around the lochs in Fort William, Oban & ending in good old Loch Lomond. We start a week today on Wednesday September 29th.
We’ve been told there won’t be many hills.. but you know they’re lying. – just in the same way they said the weather will be wonderful and there will be no midges… Yeah, right! I’ve even started practising in the midge net head cover and it’s horrible!!
