MonkHammer does a bike ride!

I've always wanted to do the Heavy Metal Truants ride, but have never been able because my selfish brother and gig partner always goes to Le Mans that weekend, so being able to take part virtually this year was a no-brainer.

More importantly though, things are pretty rubbish for a lot of people right now, especially vulnerable children, so if there's something I can do to make it better, then count me in!

Since I'm lucky enough to still be working full-time, and will be doing 90% of the ride on a stationary exercise bike in the garden (that means no downhills and no free-wheeling!), I'll be aiming for the 175 mile target (15 miles per day). However, I shall be pushing myself to ride as close to the 333 miles as possible (28 per day) and will not be stopping before the 12 days are up no matter what.

I'll also be reviving #CrayonAlbumCovers on https://www.instagram.com/monk_hammer to catalogue my riding soundtrack, and taking requests from some of my top donors, so if you want to see a favourite album desecrated in crayon, then let me know!

Thank you in advance for your generosity.

Let's ride!

About HMT 2020: The Eighth of Spades - Virtual Ride

Raise money for Nordoff Robbins, Teenage Cancer Trust, Childline, and Save the Children!

For the last eight years the Heavy Metal Truants have been doing an annual charity cycle ride from London to Download Festival set upon the hallowed heavy metal grounds of Castle Donington. Open to all, our charity ride has seen metal fans, bands, and industry types getting on their bikes and raising £681,500 in the process.

We were heartbroken to see Download Festival cancelling this year - a decision which we of course fully support. We weren’t happy to sit this year out though. Our chosen charities, all of which work hard to support children and young people, need our support now more than ever, so we’re calling on all metalheads from around the world to join us in the name of heavy metal.

As it’s the 40th anniversary of Motorhead’s Ace of Spades, what better with which to honour Lemmy than to call it…

HEAVY METAL TRUANTS 8: THE EIGHTH OF SPADES!

THE PLAN:

Between June 1st and in the run-up to June 12th, the weekend of Virtual Download Festival, we want you to get in the saddle and join us on a virtual ride. Anything with pedals which you can log on Strava is fine - actual bikes, smart trainers, or simple exercise bikes: if you can log the miles on Strava, you can join the ride. If you are going outside on a real bike though we ask that you do so safely and according to government guidelines!
