About Alan Bracey

Profile picture

Virtual Download Festival is happening this June, and I'm joining a motley crew of Downloaders in the virtual edition of their annual charity cycle ride. There are three levels of challenge (cycles of hell), and they are thus:

175 miles: 'The Road Crew' - London to Donnington. 333 miles: 'The Bomber' (Lemmy loved a double). 666 miles: 'Overkill' - ‘because every party, gig, and indeed bike ride always has to have someone who takes it that much further’.

I’m cycling 666 miles in 12 days, an average of 55.5 miles a day (or Dulwich to Basingstoke) for 12 days straight while working my day job. I’ll be riding indoors and outdoors (following all social distance rules).

I'm not just doing this to feel the wind in my beard. I'm aiming to raise £500 for charities who make the world a better place for children and young people. Check out info on the charities and how your money will be put to work on this page. Please sponsor me!

Should you need them, Annette’s also added these incentives:

1. ANY DONATION
Sponsor any amount and add a song to my Spotify cycling playlist. Rock, metal, cycling songs, or anything you care to torture me with. Click on this link: https://spoti.fi/36BlcnU

2. FIRST DONATION OF £25
I shave my legs, like pro cyclists!

3. FIRST DONATION of £50
I dye my hair a colour of your choosing.

4. £500 BY 12TH JUNE
If I reach my target, I’ll ride naked for the day in honour of World Naked Bike Ride on the 13th June.

Much love,

Alan

About HMT 2020: The Eighth of Spades - Virtual Ride

Raise money for Nordoff Robbins, Teenage Cancer Trust, Childline, and Save the Children!

For the last eight years the Heavy Metal Truants have been doing an annual charity cycle ride from London to Download Festival set upon the hallowed heavy metal grounds of Castle Donington. Open to all, our charity ride has seen metal fans, bands, and industry types getting on their bikes and raising £681,500 in the process.

We were heartbroken to see Download Festival cancelling this year - a decision which we of course fully support. We weren’t happy to sit this year out though. Our chosen charities, all of which work hard to support children and young people, need our support now more than ever, so we’re calling on all metalheads from around the world to join us in the name of heavy metal.

As it’s the 40th anniversary of Motorhead’s Ace of Spades, what better with which to honour Lemmy than to call it…

HEAVY METAL TRUANTS 8: THE EIGHTH OF SPADES!

THE PLAN:

Between June 1st and in the run-up to June 12th, the weekend of Virtual Download Festival, we want you to get in the saddle and join us on a virtual ride. Anything with pedals which you can log on Strava is fine - actual bikes, smart trainers, or simple exercise bikes: if you can log the miles on Strava, you can join the ride. If you are going outside on a real bike though we ask that you do so safely and according to government guidelines!
