Hello, this will be my fourth fundraising ride, last year was one of the toughest - torrential rain. Never have I known such a soaking in my life, we soldiered on, survived, dried out eventually. Thank you to all 2019 sponsors who made it another amazing total for Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy, ChildLine and Teenage Cancer Trust: £101.500. This year, a 4th charity will benefit : Save the Children.
2020 presents a new challenge - between 1-12 June all riders take part and do it alone, locally. It’s at least 175 miles on road or in lounge if self isolating (some will do 333 miles ‘The Bomber’, some will do 666 miles). I get on the bike once a year for this challenge, my efforts will be logged on Strava if you’d like to track my progress - I’ll aim for 333 miles. The Bomber. How does that sound?
Why embrace inevitable hour after hour of saddle time? Support from friends and family has always driven me forward, and up the hills. Thinking of the children and teenagers who are facing tough times (esp during Covid-19) spurs me on in my efforts, the funds raised will give children and young people the support they need to pull through, live their lives to the full, make a difference. In 2018 an anonymous donor for a quiz I held was comforted by the Heavy Metal Truants’ endeavours, having seen their 17 year old grandson lose his battle to cancer. Teenage Cancer Trust is a rainbow of hope for teenagers fighting against cancer In the UK. During lockdown, ChildLine have received more and more calls for help from young people. Nordoff are delivering much-needed music therapy online.
So far, I have been on my bike on Easter Sunday which motivated me to think about positive action, and a bit with my 6 year old for PE. Covid-19 must not stop the support we give to charities, their work must continue. There’s no shortage of hills round my neck of the woods, I’m in no shape to do the big ones yet but will aim to do some good ones and earn the sponsorship. No idea if I’m going to make it. I’ll muster courage from your donations.
I’m hoping my 6 year old will join me shoulder to shoulder for at least 50 miles during the 12 days to keep me on track and do his bit in between ‘the return to school’ on 8 June.
Your donation will be split 4 ways between 4 charities doing extraordinary work. Dig deep, donate what you can, help young lives in need.
Thank you all,
Helenx
