So I haven't done any fundraising for a while and this is needed now more than ever.  This year would have been our 9th Download Festival so a real tradition and the back garden festival we've planned won't be a patch on it but we're going to try. Riding there via exercise bike in support of a great bunch of charities will make this year memorable and a great way to support others. I hope you agree!

30 May UPDATE: I realise now that the page doesn't say what the challenge entails exactly so: I'll be virtually riding 175 miles on my new sparkly exercise bike between 1st and 12th June when Download Festival starts.. That's about 15 miles a day on top of the day job. You'll know that I am NOT a cyclist so let's see how this goes.. I will post daily updates on FB

11 June UPDATE: So I've not updated FB daily but you may have realised that I cleared 175 miles a while back and I am now aiming for 333 miles by tomorrow 5pm! Still NOT a cyclist but doing my best! Nearly there! Rock on!

12 June UPDATE: I did it :-) now working to complete another 333 miles by end of June.. Need to get home! That's got to be worth a few quid right?

28 June FINAL update: I did it again.. Another 333 miles on the clock. 1,085km in total: Started 1 June 19.14 and finished 28 June 21.43.  What will I do next?

Thank you so much for all the donations!!

About HMT 2020: The Eighth of Spades - Virtual Ride

Raise money for Nordoff Robbins, Teenage Cancer Trust, Childline, and Save the Children!

For the last eight years the Heavy Metal Truants have been doing an annual charity cycle ride from London to Download Festival set upon the hallowed heavy metal grounds of Castle Donington. Open to all, our charity ride has seen metal fans, bands, and industry types getting on their bikes and raising £681,500 in the process.

We were heartbroken to see Download Festival cancelling this year - a decision which we of course fully support. We weren’t happy to sit this year out though. Our chosen charities, all of which work hard to support children and young people, need our support now more than ever, so we’re calling on all metalheads from around the world to join us in the name of heavy metal.

As it’s the 40th anniversary of Motorhead’s Ace of Spades, what better with which to honour Lemmy than to call it…

HEAVY METAL TRUANTS 8: THE EIGHTH OF SPADES!

THE PLAN:

Between June 1st and in the run-up to June 12th, the weekend of Virtual Download Festival, we want you to get in the saddle and join us on a virtual ride. Anything with pedals which you can log on Strava is fine - actual bikes, smart trainers, or simple exercise bikes: if you can log the miles on Strava, you can join the ride. If you are going outside on a real bike though we ask that you do so safely and according to government guidelines!
