About Viv Wholey

Profile picture

A HMT event virgin, but as I've been doing my usual job through Covid-19 lock-down, albeit in a different way, I thought it would good to plan something for my week off, rather than have it wasted by the "at home" family who have plenty of time to do what they want ;) We have had challenges through this strange time, but nothing compared to others, especially young people and children, but also damaged adults.

I can admit to be jealous of those who could enjoy their cycling on quiet roads in the past few months, but it has been enjoyable to see folk grabbing the opportunity. My challenge is not cycling on my own, but getting out to cover the 175 miles on our poorly maintained hilly roads. I am no speed merchant and my usual routes are 20-25 miles each, twice a week. However, the scenery is stunning. I asked my husband to cycle a few miles with Wyatt last year; this is me joining them in spirit, as cycling has been part of my mental health healing processes.

Whatever Covid-19 has done to your life; do remember it is just Nature misbehaving, not taking it out on you personally, so be kind to yourself.

About HMT 2020: The Eighth of Spades - Virtual Ride

Raise money for Nordoff Robbins, Teenage Cancer Trust, Childline, and Save the Children!

For the last eight years the Heavy Metal Truants have been doing an annual charity cycle ride from London to Download Festival set upon the hallowed heavy metal grounds of Castle Donington. Open to all, our charity ride has seen metal fans, bands, and industry types getting on their bikes and raising £681,500 in the process.

We were heartbroken to see Download Festival cancelling this year - a decision which we of course fully support. We weren’t happy to sit this year out though. Our chosen charities, all of which work hard to support children and young people, need our support now more than ever, so we’re calling on all metalheads from around the world to join us in the name of heavy metal.

As it’s the 40th anniversary of Motorhead’s Ace of Spades, what better with which to honour Lemmy than to call it…

HEAVY METAL TRUANTS 8: THE EIGHTH OF SPADES!

THE PLAN:

Between June 1st and in the run-up to June 12th, the weekend of Virtual Download Festival, we want you to get in the saddle and join us on a virtual ride. Anything with pedals which you can log on Strava is fine - actual bikes, smart trainers, or simple exercise bikes: if you can log the miles on Strava, you can join the ride. If you are going outside on a real bike though we ask that you do so safely and according to government guidelines!
