So Don and I have decided to enter a challenge, which runs over the month of February. Run, jog or walk the distance between the Jersey General Hospital and Southampton’s General Hospital, which is a total of 164 Miles,

All the people that know us are aware that exercise is not normally our forte, especially as Don has had severe back problems over the years, and, has been unable to walk more than 200 yards or so without having to sit and rest his back for a few minutes.

I have recently had knee surgery and along with my Rheumatoid arthritis makes us very unfit!!

The challenge is in memory of our granddaughter Grace who died aged 11 weeks.

Due to a severe heart defect, Grace had to be born in Southampton and underwent a heart operation at just 5 days old.  During this time our son Nigel and his wife Sara lived in Southampton for around 3 months with their other 2 children.

Whilst in Southampton they realized the full impact of such a problem occurring to any family that has sick children that needed to be treated in the UK.  Not just the stress of having a sick child but all the financial problems that accompanied that.

Nigel and Sara set up “The Grace Crocker Family Support Foundation” in 2011 to help families in just these circumstances. Since then the charity has raised thousands of pounds and helped countless families

So now to the point of this post, please help us, to help families in need, by sponsoring us in our challenge to complete the 164 miles.

Thank you in advance for your sponsorship

The Grace Crocker Family Support Foundation

The Grace Crocker Family Support Foundation was set up in January 2011, in memory of Grace Crocker, who grew her angel wings aged 11 weeks. Grace was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (A congenital heart disorder in which the left side of the heart, particularly the left ventricle, is underdeveloped. The first part of the aorta may also be abnormal. Affected babies usually develop severe heart failure within the first few days of life), and had open-heart surgery when she was just 5 days old. Her family lived in Jersey, and so they had to move to Southampton for three months whilst Grace recovered from her surgery, including her brother and sister as well as her mum and dad. She met lots of friends and family when she was allowed back home to Jersey, and in the month that she was home, she touched so many people’s lives. As a result of our own experience, we set up this charity with the support of friends and family, with the aim to help other families from Jersey who need to spend time in the UK whilst their child receives medical treatment in a hospital. It is worrying enough when your child is sick, without being faced with additional financial worries, and so we would love to help families in some way, by providing them with some financial assistance and emotional support too.
