I am running to raise funds and bring awareness to the very small group of girls and women who are manifesting carriers of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. My youngest daughter is one of these women managing the day to day challenges of reduced mobility. There is limited information and support for these amazing girls and women so I hope that funds raised will support research and bring solutions and help to this very under identified group.Thank you in advance for your donation. "Muscular Dystrophy UK is the charity for the 70,000 people living with muscle-wasting conditions in the UK. We bring together people affected by more than 60 rare and very rare progressive muscle-weakening and wasting conditions. Muscle-wasting conditions are very rare, affecting just over one in every 1,000 people. As a result, some health professionals may never come across anyone with a muscle-wasting condition and may not know much about them. But we do. Since 1959, we’ve been supporting families living with muscle-wasting conditions. We provide vital information, advice, resources and support for people with these conditions, their families and the professionals who work with them."
On Sunday 8 May 2022, Oxford Town and Gown is the oldest run in the series. It started in 1982 by local runners as a fun run to raise funds for muscular dystrophy and still to this day all profits from the race go to Muscular Dystrophy UK (MDUK).
Our unique route is the only closed-road City Centre 10k in Oxford with a glorious stretch along the River Cherwell and finish in the University Parks. In 2019, the run was awarded Best 10k in South East England by the Running Awards.
