About Joanna Cooper

Profile picture

I've never done any kind of organised run before and certainly for at least the last few years never thought I would be able to.... maybe I still won't be able to but it will be interesting to find out! I signed up for this on a bit of a whim having just jogged up a hill in Wales and thought it could help to raise some money for MDUK and also be a good challenge. I've never run as far as 10k before and the 8th May will probably be the first time. I did try 8k last week to practice and survived ok apart from a blister so hopefully I'll make it to the finish! Especially as it looks like we can stop for some water half way round and it is all outdoors :-) I'm just aiming to finish and that will be enough of a challenge for me, though if I manage to run it all and not walk any that would be good too. But either way as long as it raises some funds for Musclular Dystrophy UK then it is all good and anyone is very welcome to come and watch me/eat ice cream in the park.

Fundraising Information

This fundraising page benefits the following good cause:

Muscular Dystrophy UK

"Muscular Dystrophy UK is the charity for the 70,000 people living with muscle-wasting conditions in the UK. We bring together people affected by more than 60 rare and very rare progressive muscle-weakening and wasting conditions. Muscle-wasting conditions are very rare, affecting just over one in every 1,000 people. As a result, some health professionals may never come across anyone with a muscle-wasting condition and may not know much about them. But we do. Since 1959, we’ve been supporting families living with muscle-wasting conditions. We provide vital information, advice, resources and support for people with these conditions, their families and the professionals who work with them."

About Oxford Town and Gown 2022

On Sunday 8 May 2022, Oxford Town and Gown is the oldest run in the series. It started in 1982 by local runners as a fun run to raise funds for muscular dystrophy and still to this day all profits from the race go to Muscular Dystrophy UK (MDUK).

Our unique route is the only closed-road City Centre 10k in Oxford with a glorious stretch along the River Cherwell and finish in the University Parks. In 2019, the run was awarded Best 10k in South East England by the Running Awards.
