Firstly thank you for visiting my fundraising page! If you know me, you know I am not a runner - but despite an injury this year I am determined to complete the 10k in Cambridge for Muscular Dystrophy U.K.
The muscular dystrophies (MD) are a group of inherited genetic conditions that gradually cause the muscles to weaken, leading to an increasing level of disability.
MD is a progressive condition, which means it gets worse over time. It often begins by affecting a particular group of muscles, before affecting the muscles more widely.
Some types of MD eventually affect the heart or the muscles used for breathing, at which point the condition becomes life-threatening.
There's no cure for MD, but treatment can help to manage many of the symptoms. This charity helps anyone suffering and their families.
This year, Angela and Brian Gilmour will be starting the Cambridge Town and Gown in memory of their incredible son Jonathan, a student at St John’s College, University of Cambridge, who sadly died this year at the age of 35.
Jonathan was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy at the age of 7 and achieved an incredible amount during his life.
So if you could please spare £2 or £3 to donate to this incredible charity, I will be most grateful while I attempt to run this race, most likely in the pouring rain! Thank you
