Last April, my twin sister Gab and Jess, or as I like to call her Jessie, got married. I have never met a two individuals more meant for each other, they are the definition of Forest Gump's peas and carrots. We were all so beyond happy for them and excited for them to start their married life together, but only two months later the impossible happened.
Jessie had a seizure out of nowhere and was rushed to hospital, following a lot of scans she was diagnosed with brain cancer. Following her operation to remove the tumour came the results from pathology which showed a grade 4 Malignant Astrocytoma, this type of brain cancer is incurable. Words don't exist for me to share how this devastated us all. Of course no one more than Jess and Gab.
Ever since that day it has been a battle, Jess has undergone surgery, a 6 week course of radio and chemo combined, and is now due to finish her second bout of chemo (6 month stint) in May. All of this in less than a year is just unfathomable for most, yet Jessie has been an inspiration to all of us every single day. Her (and Gabs) positive attitude to tackle this head on has been nothing short of inspiring, Jess has not let this diagnosis defeat her one bit, she is a force to be reckoned with and will never stop fighting.
So, this May, I'm joining Jessie, Gab and members of Jessie's family to run the Plymouth 10K together to raise funds for The Brain Tumour Charity. Yes you read that right, Jessie is running the 10k, she is an absolute machine and will probable finish it way before the rest of us, this girl is determined, brave and tenacious, the word can't does not exist in her vocabulary. Brain cancer research is massively underfunded so we're hoping to raise as much as we can together whilst also raising awareness too.
If you can donate anything, no matter how small, I will be forever grateful. Even if you can't donate, sharing this post to reach more people and raise awareness would be really appreciated.
As I've said, this has beyond devastated us all, with more research perhaps in the future a cure can be found that will help to ensure no-one ever has to hear the words 'incurable' again. Please join me and my family in this fight, thank you.
