About Giada Baroni

Profile picture

Myself and my teammate, Polly, are students in Edinburgh. We are both women in STEM studying Astrophysics and Computer Science. However as representation in these male-dominated fields increase there is still a large gender gap in the human right to education.
We recognise the privelege we have to access schooling up to 18 and beyond, despite nearly 130 million girls out of classrooms and even more in school but not learning.
We're taking part in this event because it will bring awareness to the life-changing work Malala Fund do and raise donations to solve this pressing issue.
We hope as you travel along with us in this wild leap of faith, we can become better informed and make a lasting impact by supporting this brilliant charity.

NEED IN AFGHANISTAN:
With the continued closure of schools for girls, in March 2022 Malala Fund invested in a pilot programme that aims to meet the food, health and learning requirements of children in Afghanistan. It will reach 37,300 students aged 4–16 years old, of which 22,380 are girls. The programme is being implemented through a consortium of on-the-ground partners.
IMPACT ON CLIMATE CRISIS:
Evidence shows that closing gender gaps in education can help countries better adapt to the effects of climate change and decrease the rate and impact of global warming. That’s why Malala Fund is advocating for leaders to recognise the impact that climate events have on girls’ education and the critical role, gender-equal education can play in building a greener, fairer future.
