Each September a unique race is run across wildlife conservancies in Kenya. Runners cover over 200km of trail on foot, among beautiful wildlife and under the watchful eye of the Rangers who protect that precious wildlife.
All net profits and fundraising from this race go straight to ForRangers and Save the Rhino. ForRangers are an organisation who work to ensure the welfare of those brave rangers who put themselves between our planet's remaining Rhinos and Elephants and the poachers who hunt them for profit.
In it's first 2 years, the race has raised over £250,000, but this year has been different. Covid_19 has prevented this race from taking place at a time when the conservancies and the Rangers who protect them are in more need of help than ever.
That's why this year, we've created the Virtual ForRangers Ultra, an opportunity for you to help us bridge that gap and help the Rangers to survive these uncertain times and rebuild when tourism returns to more normal levels.
This event is open to anyone who wants to help. You can sign up to run 5km each day, 10km, a half-marathon or, if you're feeling brave, a full marathon distance each day - just as the ultra-runners would do at the real event in Kenya.
Whether you're running laps of your garden, your local park or you're able to head out into the hills, everyone can get involved in this unique challenge from wherever they are in the world.
Throughout the challenge, we'll be posting stories and videos from the race, holding live Q&As with some of those people directly involved in Save the Rhino and ForRangers and offering prizes for the best performances, but also for some other categories we'll surprise you with along the way.
In the last 15 years, over 1500 Wildlife Rangers have died in the line of duty in Africa. They put their lives on the line to ensure that the beautiful and unique wildlife they watch over can thrive into the future. Join us in taking on an epic challenge to help support their incredible work.
