Brightly

Brighty is a small, local charity that has been providing vital support for 100 years to children and young people aged from newborn to 25 years who are assisted by the Children’s Service or are experiencing adversity.

We provide opportunities for those children to enrich their lives. Among other things, we provide support for education and training, health and well-being, and help individuals move towards independence. Our support includes nursery placements for the children of care leavers, food vouchers during times of crisis, and memberships to Jersey Zoo and other attractions that facilitate quality family time. For care leavers, we will help fund, in addition to statutory allowances provided by the Government of Jersey, the costs of college courses, work clothes, tools, and medical fees. We also fund items for when they move into their first home, which is a very exciting, but big and expensive step.

For care-experienced young people, our charity is often described as the ‘bank of Mum and Dad’, when the parent/s can’t be there or are unable to help, for whatever reason.

Benefits Of Our Support

Our support makes a real difference to the life experiences and life chances of vulnerable children and young people in Jersey. There are also less obvious but equally important benefits that result from our work, such as greater social inclusion, financial independence, personal growth and development and social mobility, particularly for care-experienced young people.

Together, we can ensure that they have a healthy, secure, and happy childhood and move confidently toward adulthood and independence.
