About Stroud Half Marathon 2023

FREE  EVENT  PHOTOGRAPHS

We will be offering FREE OF CHARGE event photographs for every single runner, as well as a sustainable memento and of course a fantastic medal!

CUPLESS  RACING

Once again this year the event will be CUPLESS!  This means that we will NOT be providing disposable cups at water stations, volunteers will be happy to fill your own bottles/ cups.  In our quest to reduce the waste produced by running events we ask you to respect this and run with your own drinking vessel.

USING  HEADPHONES  WHILST  RUNNING

The use of personal stereos, iPods, phones or other music devises is not allowed under UKA rule 240 S5 – the wearing of headphones, or similar devices, (other than those medically prescribed), is not permitted in races on any single carriageway road that is not wholly closed to traffic.

  • The wearing of such equipment may prevent you from hearing instructions from marshals and other event staff as well as the hearing of sirens/horns from emergency services and other vehicles. By wearing such devices you are putting yourself and those around you at risk.
  • Rule 240 S5 also accepts use of conductive headphones, however the final decision lies with the Event Organiser, and we DO NOT allow their use as it is impossible for marshal to differentiate between them and other types of headphones when runners pass them.
  • The Event Organisers will have no responsibility should this rule be ignored. Please do not risk our ability to be granted a future licence.
  • Runners seen to be wearing headphones will be disqualified by the Event Organisers

Fundraising Information

This fundraising page benefits the following good causes:

Longfield Community Hospice

We support adults with life-limiting illness from their diagnosis onwards. We help people to understand and manage their illness, to cope with its impact on their lives, as well as supporting them to live well. Importantly, we support family and carers too. We provide a Hospice at Home service, enabling people in the last three months of life to stay at home if that is their choice. Our services also include help for families to deal effectively with their grief, and education for other professionals who are looking after people at the end of life. We sum up the benefits of what we offer as ‘Living well; Dying well; Caring well’.

All of Longfield’s services are free and most are provided at our beautiful Wellbeing Centre in Minchinhampton. Some, including Wellbeing Workshops, Fatigue & Breathlessness and Bereavement Groups, are increasingly being offered at community venues, closer to where people live. Currently, 85% of the charity’s income comes from the general public, through our 20 shops, our weekly lottery, voluntary donations, gifts in Wills and a host of fundraising events and activities.

The charity employs around 145 people but is also highly dependent on volunteers. Over 400 people volunteer for us each year; across every department – at the hospice itself, at our events and in our shops and warehouse.

The Door

The Door has been providing vital support services for young people and their families across the Stroud District for over 30 years. The Door provides safe spaces for vulnerable individuals, somewhere they can feel the belong and be empowered. The Door provides positive role models in multiple settings and above all gives people hope. Practically this looks like youth clubs, mentoring, parenting courses and volunteering opportunities.

Motivated by the Christian values of hope, forgiveness and prayer The Door delivers its services at the heart of local communities, seeking to engage stakeholders from the bottom up. We have in-depth knowledge of the local area and its people, we tackle the root causes leading to enduring results and are prepared to deal with complex issues that other agencies shy away from.

The Door travels with people for the long term – walking alongside them, carrying the burden and never giving up.

Disasters Emergency Committee (on behalf of RaceNation Events)

More than a million people have fled their homes to escape the conflict in Ukraine.

Heavy fighting, shelling and air strikes across the country have had devastating consequences for ordinary people. Homes have been destroyed. Families have been separated. Lives have been lost.

At Ukraine’s borders with Poland, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and Moldova, huge numbers of people are arriving with only what they can carry.

DEC charities and their local partners are in Ukraine and in neighbouring countries providing food, water, shelter and medical assistance.
