ACLT was founded in 1996 when Daniel De-Gale was told there would be a 1 in 250,000 chance of finding a donor because of his ethnicity. Diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) in 1993, he passed away in 2008 due to multiple organ failure.
