Sepsis Research (FEAT)

Sepsis Research FEAT was founded as FEAT- the Fiona Elizabeth Agnew Trust- in 2013 by Craig Stobo after the sudden death of his wife Dr Fiona Elizabeth Agnew and their unborn daughter Isla in Aug 2012.
Dr Fiona Elizabeth Agnew was a Falkirk-based GP, living in Edinburgh with Craig and their young son. She had wanted to be a doctor since she was a child.
Fiona and Craig had welcomed their first child in 2010 and she was expecting their second in September 2012.
On the evening of Friday 24th August 2012 Fiona was taken to hospital, having suddenly fallen ill. An antenatal scan the previous day had indicated that both she and the baby were well but the following evening she was diagnosed with an infection and subsequently sepsis.
Baby Isla was stillborn at 5.10 am on Saturday 25th August, by which time Fiona was in an unstable and critical condition. For the remainder of the day and into the night the medical staff worked tirelessly to save her life.
Tragically, they were unsuccessful and Fiona died at 1.50am on Sunday 26th August 2012 from multiple organ failure caused by sepsis. The condition had caused a dramatic deterioration in Fiona’s health in just a few hours and without any warning – by the time she reached hospital it was effectively too late.
In the aftermath of their deaths, Craig’s immediate reaction was to pledge to fund research and raise awareness of sepsis, to prevent other families suffering the same terrible loss as his own.

Lily's Fund

Lily is a kind, thoughtful, active and positive 23-year-old medical student at Cardiff University. On January 14, 2025, she was rushed to the hospital with flu-like symptoms, only to rapidly worsen into septic shock. She was diagnosed with meningococcal septicaemia, a severe and aggressive infection. Despite suffering two cardiac arrests, Lily fought for her life, thanks to the incredible care of the team at University Hospital Wales. After two weeks in a coma, she began to show signs of recovery, but an MRI revealed multiple brain, spleen and liver infarcts, leaving the long-term effects uncertain.
The infection caused severe blood flow issues, and as a result, Lily has undergone surgery to shorten all four limbs (with the amazing support of the Plastics Team at Morriston Hospital, Swansea), leaving her a quadruple amputee (above her knees and through her elbows). While this is a devastating situation, her strength and determination remain unshaken. We are committed to ensuring that Lily has the best chance for recovery and the opportunity to pursue her dreams.
Before her illness, Lily was an avid swimmer, runner, and surfer, and these sports are essential to her well-being and happiness. The advanced prosthetics available through private companies will give her the mobility and independence to return to these activities. This will not only aid her physical recovery but also allow her to reconnect with the passions that have always brought her joy.
Funds raised here will go directly towards prosthetics, adaptations to living environment, as well as the physiotherapy and rehabilitation necessary for Lily’s recovery.
Any funds not directly used for Lily’s care will be donated to Limb Power, a charity that supports amputees and individuals with limb impairments through physical activity, sport, and the arts to enhance their quality of life and aid in lifelong rehabilitation.

Your support will make a world of difference in helping Lily rebuild her life, regain her independence, and pursue her dreams. Thank you in advance for your generosity and support.
