Due to my ovarian cancer diagnosis last year, the last 12 months have brought many changes to both my life and my children's. Part of these changes have been a bigger awareness of charity, doing things to help others and seizing every opportunity we can.
So one morning while we were having breakfast, to my surprise Ella (my 8 year old daughter) suddenly announced that she wanted to raise money for charity by completing the Guernsey Round Island Walk after hearing many anecdotes and stories of previous walks from her Grandad, who helps organise the event.
Whilst being very proud of her ambition and supporting her desire to help others, it took much convincing that maybe 39 miles in a day was a little too far for her first charity walk. Ella went quiet and seemed to drop the idea until a few days later she surprised us again by announcing that she had roped in her best friend and his family (the Reeds - Sammy aged 8, George aged 9 with parents Kate and Chris) to help and they have created a relay team. There was no stopping them once Ella, Sammy and George set their minds to it and thus the team 'The Walkie Talkies' was born. Now if you know my daughter and Sammy that name is very fitting as they do not ever stop talking!
So to the plan: Ella, Sammy and George will complete the walk as a relay team along the 39 miles with Kate and Chris being dragged along to 'supervise'. If I am well enough at the time of the walk I hope to join in here and there as best I can.
Any money you could spare to support Ella, Sammy, George, Kate and Chris on their charity walk would be gratefully received.

Raising Funds For
The Rotary Guernsey Walk Trust
To organise the annual Rotary Guernsey Walk around the island as a means to raise funds which are then distributed to charities & non-profit organisations registered on the public register in the Bailiwick. The Walk is currently known as Saffery Rotary walk
To mark the important milestone of reaching this our 25th Round Island Walk, we have selected 25 worthy Bailiwick Charities who will each receive a share of money raised to fund specific projects or initiatives that have been pre-qualified by us.
