From the 1st-3rd November, Amba and Stan will be travelling from Edinburgh, Scotland to Paris, France. As if this wasn't already enough of a challenge for them, they will be undertaking the journey on a budget of £0. Yes, £0. Racing against 60 other pairs, they will rely on luck, determination and the goodness of strangers' hearts to hitch-hike, walk, beg, busk and cry their way to the French capital. To many of us, the idea of not being able to afford your next meal is hard to imagine. However, around 590,000 people in the UK - more than the population of Bristol - visit a food bank more than 2 times a year. That is why Amba and Stan are doing this in the name of The Trussell Trust, a NGO that works to end the need for food banks in the UK. It works alongside pre-existing banks to provide emergency food and compassionate, practical support to people in crisis. It also focuses much of its efforts on long-term change to the structural issues that lock people into poverty and create the need for food banks in the first place.
