Myself and good friend, Zak Mansuri have challenged ourselves to the Race2Amsterdam, leaving Edinburgh on the 14th of February and hitch hiking the entire way without spending a penny on transport - all in aid of charity.
Despite the reduction in UK media attention, the devastating Australian bushfire crisis prevails, over three months on, and the nation continues to suffer. More than 16 million acres of land have already gone up in flames, including highly populated areas which is unlike most of the world’s other blazes of this scale and as a result, countless numbers of lives, homes and wildlife have been affected.
An estimated 1.25 billion animals have been injured or displaced, including 30% of the entire koala population in New South Wales, which places a number of species in the critically endangered category. Therefore, as we are obliged to choose a UK registered charity, we have chosen to support WWF-UK which has a number of Australian based teams working tirelessly to achieve the following, and more:
* Providing emergency funds to care for injured wildlife
* Restoring homes for injured and displaced wildlife
* Supporting the response, recovery and restoration teams across the affected region
* Helping pressure governments to strengthen laws that prevent excessive tree-clearing (this reduces the amount of shelter available for wildlife which may potentially act as a permanent habitat)
With only 9 days until our departure, any donation towards our minimum goal of £500 (no matter how big or small) would be greatly appreciated, not only by ourselves but by those who will benefit from the work of WWF-UK!
Although it is inevitable we will experience a number of difficult and frustrating situations, supporting a fantastic cause will make it all worthwhile.
Let’s get racing!!
