TRANSCEND is by and for the queer and trans community.
It’s an opportunity to SHAKE UP the way running races are organised. Traditionally, athletics (and running in particular) has existed within a strict binary with prizes being awarded exclusively to cis men or cis women.
Most, if not all sports governing bodies continue to use binary measuring systems which unjustly isolate trans athletes and restrict the ways in which those athletes can compete. Sadly, this is down to the very limited research into the impact of testosterone and other hormones on all bodies — not just trans bodies.
This archaic measuring system will not be used at TRANSCEND. Our race will welcome all bodies across the gender spectrum and, rather than isolating trans and non-binary runners in a category of their own, they will be measured alongside every other athlete. We're making history, bbz.
Organised by Queer Running Club to celebrate transgender, non-binary, gender non-conforming people, to raise awareness of the discrimination faced by the trans community in sport.
All queer and trans people are welcome to run and walk. Allies are welcome to cheer!
We ask that you: Be proud, Be supportive, Be respectful, No transphobia, No homophobia, No queerphobia, No racism, No sexism, No ableism, No harassment of any kind.
Bring your friends to support you. We cannot wait to celebrate with you!
